Privacy policy

Last updated: 3 May 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how The Army & Navy Stores ("we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and shares your personal information when you visit or make a purchase from thearmynavystores.com (the "Site"). We’re a family-run shop in Heswall, Wirral, and we take your privacy seriously.

This policy is written to be read. If anything is unclear, call us on 0151 342 4538 or email info@thearmynavystores.com — we’ll explain in plain English.

Personal information we collect

When you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and some of the cookies that are installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Device Information.”

We collect Device Information using the following technologies:

  • Cookies — small data files placed on your device that help us recognise you on return visits and remember your preferences. Our cookies are managed by Shopify and Google Analytics; we do not run a separate cookie list.
  • Log files — track actions on the Site and collect data including IP address, browser type, internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.
  • Web beacons, tags, and pixels — small electronic files that record information about how you browse the Site.

When you make a purchase or attempt to make a purchase through the Site, we collect certain information from you, including your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information (card details are processed via Shopify’s secure payment system — we never see or store full card numbers), email address, and phone number. We refer to this information as “Order Information.”

When we talk about “Personal Information” in this Privacy Policy, we are talking both about Device Information and Order Information.

How we use your personal information

We use the Order Information that we collect generally to fulfil any orders placed through the Site (including processing your payment information, arranging for shipping, and providing you with invoices and order confirmations). Additionally, we use this Order Information to:

  • Communicate with you about your order
  • Screen orders for potential risk or fraud
  • When in line with the preferences you have shared with us, provide you with information or marketing relating to our products or services

We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and more generally to improve and optimise the Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site).

Sharing your personal information

We share your Personal Information with third parties to help us use your Personal Information, as described above. For example:

  • We use Shopify to power our online store. You can read more about how Shopify uses your Personal Information at shopify.com/legal/privacy.
  • We may use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site. You can opt out of Google Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.
  • We share your delivery address with the courier (Royal Mail or DPD) to deliver your order.
  • We may share your information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, to respond to a subpoena, search warrant, or other lawful request for information we receive, or to otherwise protect our rights.

Behavioural advertising

We do not currently use your Personal Information to provide you with targeted advertisements or marketing communications across other websites. If we begin to do so, we will update this policy and notify you.

Your rights under UK GDPR

If you are a UK or European resident, you have the following rights regarding your personal information:

  • The right to access personal information we hold about you
  • The right to ask that your personal information be corrected, updated, or erased
  • The right to object to processing or to request restriction of processing
  • The right to request data portability
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on consent

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us using the details at the bottom of this page. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk) if you believe we have not handled your data correctly.

We process your information in order to fulfil contracts we have with you (for example, when you make an order through the Site) and to pursue our legitimate business interests, as listed above.

Data retention

When you place an order through the Site, we retain your Order Information for a minimum of 6 years to comply with HMRC requirements, and then until you ask us to erase it.

Changes

We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes to our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons. The “Last updated” date at the top of this policy will reflect any changes.
